LIFE CURRENCIES
CURRENCY NUMBER 5
GOOD CHARACTER
2Peter 1:5-11
One important characteristic that we must always have is the desire to want to get better. It is a powerful force.
There is no limit to a man that always aspire to get better. Even if you don't have all these qualities now or you have them in small measures, your desire and your decision to get better will drive you to possess them.
A man through desire intermeddleth with all wisdom, Proverbs 18:1.
If there is one thing that must not die in your life as a believer it is your hunger and thirst for God, Matthew 5:6
It is the driving force that keeps pushing you to press for more. Don't retain your taste, allow the Holy Spirit to pour you from vessel from vessel.
Good character is a currency and it comprises of quite a number of features that is summed up in one thing 'the fear of the Lord'.
I am going to list some of the features instead of making them a topic one by one and I will explain some.
If you decide to fear the Lord by keeping his commandments and doing what pleases Him, the result is good character. The features are as follows:
HONESTY: It means speaking and acting truthfully. Proverbs 12:22 says lying lips are an abomination to the Lord but those who act faithfully are his delight.
INTEGRITY: Having integrity means that you live in accordance to your deepest values, you're honest with everyone, and you always keep your word. integrity is a highly valued trait, especially in leaders.
When you live with integrity, you're more likely to be considered for important promotions and leadership positions.
Proverbs 20:7 says "The just man walketh in his integrity and his children are blessed after him".
The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them, Proverbs 11:3.
LOYALTY: I have discussed this alongside with committment in one of my previous posts, you can refer to it.
SELF SACRIFICE: Many can't sacrifice self to benefit others, 2Timothy 2:10, Matthew16:24.
The mentality of what is in it for me has robbed many of golden opportunities disguised as unpaid labour or cheap service, Phillipians 2:7-8,17.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountability is not servitude. It helps you to stay within the boundary of caution.
You must by yourself make youself accountable to someone or some rules or laws. As powerful as God is, He set boundaries for Himself by his Word, Psalm 138:2.
As good as liberty is, it can be very costly, Galatians 5:13. Even though you are not under bondage to any man, set laws and boundaries for yourself through accountability.
Let there be someone in your life who can question you about your steps and the things you do.
Sometimes we have missed the way and we are totally wrong yet by ourselves we can't see it but others can, be open to their correction.
SELF CONTROL: It is also called self discipline. If you want to go far in life you must be disciplined. If you want to last long you must have self control, 2Kings 5:20.
It is not everything you desire that you must have. It may be beautiful but not good for your destiny, Genesis 35:22.
You must have the self discipline to say no and turn your back at some good things too not only bad things, Hebrews 12:16
HUMILITY: Be humble. Humility is not thinking lowly thoughts of yourself. It is not calling yourself unworthy, Exodus 4:10-14.
Humility is recognizing God as the source of all the good things in your life and having the unashamedness to publicly say so.
You must be humble first in your thoughts, then your words and your actions.
CONTENTMENT: Contentment is a virtue but many don't know it, 1Timothy 6:6-8.
Lack of contentment has plunged people into disaster and sent them to early grave 1Timothy 6:9&10.
Contentment is being satisfied with what God is doing in your life per season or time. It is not wanting to go ahead of God.
To define contentment well, it is better to define it using God as the reference so that you don't fall into the two extremes on the other sides of contentment; complacency and covetousness.
DEPENDABILITY: Are you dependable? Even though we are humans we must work on a daily basis towards becoming more and more dependable.
Can you offer your shoulder for others to lean on? The bible called Egypt a splintered reed that tore the back of Israel when she tried leaning on her, 2Kings 18:21. May that not be your testimony in Jesus name.
Don't be a torn in the flesh of people when they try to lean on you in their difficult times.
Even though God is the only one that is totally dependable we must work towards becoming more and more conformed to the image of Christ as Christians on a daily basis.
COMPASSION: Be compassionate towards others, Romans 12:10. Compassion is a fruit of the Spirit and it is different from sympathy, Galatians 5:22.
It is what is referred to as Goodness in that scripture. Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, Acts 10:38. Compassion is also referred to as mercy, Exodus 33:19, Matthew 18:27.
Compassion is a God given attribute. Sympathy is a condition driven attribute. You can sympathize with people one moment and hate them the next, once the condition that make you sympathize with them is no longer there.
God's compassion however endures forever.
We still have about five more attributes that make for a good character which I will be sharing with us in my next post by God's grace
PRAYER:
It is the Lord that worketh in us to will and to do of His good the pleasure, Phillipians 2:13. Father work in me to will and do your good pleasure in Jesus name.
Lord, plant a hunger and a desire in me to be a better person in me and give me the grace to follow through with my decision in Jesus name.

SALVATION PRAYER
Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:
Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.
Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!
PEACE
