YOUR NEW LIFE

2Corinthians 5:17

One thing I have found out is that the things we do on a daily basis is what determines whether or not we are spiritual.


Apostle Paul told Timothy his spiritual son that no man that warreth entagleth himself in civilian affairs, he is busy trying to please his commanding officer, 2 Timothy 2:4. 


Nobody gets spiritual focusing his attention on secular things. You don't get spiritual watching home videos, gisting and partying. 


The word of God says those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires but those who live according to the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires, Romans 8:5. 


What you do on daily basis, how you live your life is what determines whether you are spiritual or not.



Living by the Spirit means yielding yourself to obey the dictates of the Spirit. The conscious effort to give yourself to the things of the Spirit is called yielding. 


After you have given your life to Jesus, the activities you give yourself to must change. 


You must consciously make effort to replace the things you give yourself to and one of the realities of the Spirit of God now living in you is that you begin to lose appetite for your old way of life and you must partner with the Holy Spirit to achieve this by consciously submitting to your new appetites. 


If for example you love watching secular films, you must change it to watching christian films. 


If you are the type that listens to wordly music, it must be replaced with christian music and messages. 


If before you read novels a lot, you have to consciously put it aside and replace it with reading the Bible and christian literatures. 


If before you go visiting a lot, you have to replace that with staying alone quietly in one place to seek the face of God and learn how to hear His voice. 


If before you attend parties here and there before, it must be replaced with attending church services and christian programmes. 


You have to excercise the new tongue you just received, even if it is just for 15minutes only everyday. 


You will do these things with the help of the Holy Spirit because it is not going to be easy at all when you start because the devil will bring persecutions and attacks.


You will struggle through it, it will be very boring but you will have to keep on doing it. You will want to pray, and you will begin to remember the important things around the house that need your attention, you will pray and fall asleep and sleep soundly. 


But as you press on and continue, a time will come when the Holy Spirit will take notice of your willingness and committment and will begin to take you serious. 


At that time He will give you help. You will be aided to pray, study the word of God and from that point on your christian life takes a new turn. 


Prayer becomes sweet, Bible study becomes more revelational, spending time with God takes priority over gisting and partying. 


All of these becomes effortless not because you have mastered them but because help has been given to you. 


You have not mastered them because the devil will not stop bringing things to distract you and occupy your attention and you must depend on the Holy Spirit always so that you will not yield to the devil's distractions.



However if after you have given your life to Jesus, you still set your mind on what the sinful nature desires and you did not make a conscious effort to replace the things you used to do before with the new things the Holy Spirit will begin to suggest to you, you will still live according to the sinful nature though you are born again and tongue talking. 


Those that live according to the Spirit do so because they have their minds set on what the Spirit desires like praying and fasting, studying the word, going to church, spending time alone with God, listening to christian messages and songs, reading christian literatures, fellowshipping with and befriending fellow saints. 


Those who live according to the sinful nature, though they may be born again and speak in tongues have their minds set on what that nature desires. They feed their soul and body while their spirits starve.


Doing secular activities are not bad in themselves, they are not sins and the Holy Spirit is not opposed to you doing them. 


The reason the Holy Spirit asks us to lay things down is not because He doesn't want us to do anything secular at all but they are things the devil take advantage of to use against our spiritual progress if they are not brought under the control of the Holy Spirit. 


If we do not allow the Holy Spirit decide our daily activities and how we do them, the devil takes advantage of those seemingly harmless activities, gives us inordinate affection for them to the detriment of our spiritual life. 


May the Lord help us in Jesus name.


PRAYER: Lord, plant in me a real hunger for you and your things that no amount of distraction from the world will be able to snuff out my fire in Jesus name.

Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:


 Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour. 


Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!

SPIRITUALLY AMBITIOUS OR A GOD SEEKER? PSALM 24:6 Just as one can be ambitious physically, one can also be ambitious spiritually too.  Sometime ago, I listened to a preacher and he mentioned the number of hours he spent praying and I was challenged.  Right in that meeting I made up my mind to jack up my prayer life and I set it as a goal.
