EXPOSITION FROM THE BOOK OF EPHESIANS

PART 2 - MADE ALIVE IN CHRIST

Ephesians 2


Today we will be looking at the second chapter of the book of Ephesians.


Here, Apostle Paul made us to realize who we were before and who we are now and how God brought us near unto Him and into the inheritance of the saints in light through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Ephesians 2:1-3


The death of Jesus Christ was so that we can be brought in to partake of the blessings of Abraham only made available to the Jews at that time. 


He explained to us how God put us in Christ so that we were in him when He died, was buried and raised up. So that our salvation will come through faith in what Christ did for us and not through works of the law, Ephesians 2:4-7


He told us that this salvation is a gift of God to us that we didn't work to earn it but only believed to become partakers of it, Ephesians 2:8


He showed us how by the death of Christ God put an end to the enemity that is between the Jews and we Gentiles so that through Christ and by His blood we can now all, both Jews and Gentiles have access to God through Christ and not through the law, Ephesians 2:13-16


Apostle Paul further showed us how that through Christ we too can now partake of the common wealth of Israel which includes but not limited to the blessings of Abraham, the promises, the covenants e.t.c., Romans 9:4&5. 


Such that through Jesus both the Jews and Gentiles can now have access to God by one Spirit, that is, the Spirit of Jesus, Ephesians 2:18


As a result of this you and I are no longer strangers  and foreigners as we once were, but now we are fellow citizens with the saints amd household of God, Ephesians 2:19. 


Jesus achieved this by His body and by His blood. He put an end to the laws of commandments that was against us by his body and gave to both Jews and Gentiles His spirit to acesss God as father not like before that right standing with God is only possible by the law, Epheaians 2:14-16. 


It was an entirely new creation that Jesus by His body and blood gave birth to, not the old but a new creation. 


Because he had to preach peace to both those that were afar off that is you and I (Gentiles) and those that are near that is the Jews, Ephesians 2:17. 


So in the New Covenant, access to God came by that which He supplied to both through His Spirit, not by the law. 


Meaning the Jews can no longer by the law claim that they have a right standing with God. 


That old covenant has been cancelled by the flesh and blood of Jesus. Only one way is now opened for all to have access to God, by the Spirit of Jesus, Epheaians 2:18. 


Therefore, in Christ there is only one new man that has nothing of the old testament in him but he is only made new in Christ.  


This new household of God that Christ came to build by His flesh and blood was not built on the old foundation of laws and commandments but on the foundation  of the Apostles and Prophets and Jesus Himself being the chief corner stone, Ephesians 2:20. 


It is in Christ that this new creation is fitly joined together not the old testaments of keeping the law. 


It is in Christ that we can grow to become God's temple where God can now indwell us through His Spirit (The Holy Spirit), Ephesians 2:21&22. 


What does this mean? 


It means that until Christ came and made in Himself one new man through His death and resurrection, the Spirit of God cannot indwell man, John 7:39


No man can be the temple of the lord either among those that have the laws of commandments called The Circumscion or those that are without the laws of commandments called The Uncircumscion.  


So the new creation and the possiblity of God indwelling man and becoming His temple, that is, God living through man to carry out his plan did not exist, Ephesians  2:22


It only came to be by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ!


This is good news! We should all say thank you to JESUS for this great possibility he made available to is through His sacrifice.

PRAYER: FATHER, OPEN MY EYES TO SEE AND MY HEART TO UNDER STAND THAT I HAVE BEEN MADE ALIVE IN CHRIST. CAUSE THE REALITY OF YOUR INDWELLING PRESENCE IN ME TO BE REAL TO ME IN JESUS NAME.

Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:


 Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour. 


Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!

CHANGE FOCUS One major winning strategy is to keep your focus on what God is doing and not on what God is yet to do.  The devil is very adept at making people focus their attention either on what he is doing in their lives or on what God is not doing for them  This is the reason for sadness and depression.
