THE GODS OF EGYPT

No matter how great and mighty you are you cannot worship yourself. You will look to other things for worship.

What makes something obvious that it is great is the worship that others give to it.

Everything that God created is created to one end to the end that they all might worship Him, Revelations 4:11.

God cannot worship Himself, so everything He created worship Him as the creator.

Unfortunately Satan too wants worship but he is not a creator so he steals worship by making images like unto the creator and deceive people into worshipping him through them.

The book of Revelations talk about the dragon and the image of the beast that the people bow to and worship, Revelations 13:1-4.

The dragon never present it self for worship directly but rather formed images of the beast, infact one image was like unto the lamb but the voice speaking through it is the voice of the dragon, Revelations 13:11&12.

There is the king of Tyre which is Satan himself but there is also the Prince of Tyre who is a man, a earthly king; the image of the beast, Ezekiel 26-28.

There is only one true God but there are many many images(gods) created in the likeness of God by men but are not God at all, Romans 1:23&25.

Egypt, a type of the world is noted for having so many gods, all in an attempt to make people not to worship the one and only true God.

You don't need many gods, you need only Jesus the one and only true Son of God. This Jesus is the express image of God and has been made all things unto us.

He becomes unto us whatever we need so we don't need to seek things outside of Him, 1Corinthians 1:30-31

If I ask you who is your God you will be quick to answer Jesus or the one and only true living God.

But it may shock you to realize that your God is whatever you worship. When it comes to worship it goes to God only not God and something else.

The Bible says, "Thou shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall thou serve", Deuteronomy 6:13. Anything you serve that is not the one and only true living God is an idol.

An idol is a lifeless image that has no power on it's own but the power that men give to it through their worship, Isaiah 45:6.

To this end there are many many gods. Money could be your God, to another it is fashion, yet to another it is beauty, to another it is academic prowess, to another it is power and influence. Yet to another it is career success, yet to another it is food, for some it is sex.

Anything you exalt and worship above God is an idol.

This morning I am going to be talking about the idols that men have fashioned in the likeness of God but have not been able to save them.

They offer temporary solutions at their best but not permanent ones. The temporary solutions they provide is their power of attraction. Overtime, they become burdens to those that worship them.

If you encounter Jesus truly, He will destroy every other gods you have been serving and will establish Himself as the only true God in your heart.

He won't allow anything else to take His place in your heart. He will be the only one sitting upon the throne of your heart.

Many of us have been worshipping money, we believe there is no problem that money cannot solve so we have abandoned our secret place to run after money.

How you will know is that you will always be counting the cost of what you are losing monetarily or materially by spending more time in his presence.

I remember a young man I mentored some years back. He was a street begger that God turned his life around and gave him two sources of income. The change in his life was dramatic.

However when money started coming it began to take the place of God in His life. When he comes for Bible study he would be checking his time. He gets so restless.

You know why? He is already calculating how much he could have made during that time he spent listening to the Word of God. It now looked to him like a waste of time. He has soon forgotten where God took him from.

How you will know these things crave worship is that they will place themselves side by side with God in your life to see who you will bow to.

It is at the time when you suppose to be having your quiet time that the customer with the highest offer will come.

It is when you suppose to go for Bible study or prayer meeting that customers will begin to troop into your shop or a friend will be around with a very juicy contract or business offer.

When such happens know that you are going through a test to see who or what you will worship.

You can't pray these things away, it will happen. Your love for God will be tested, your worship will be put to test to see who you will bow to. May we pass the test in Jesus name.

For some it is beauty and fashion. They know and have all the latest dresses in town but they don't have a Bible or carry around one old worn out one, they never read until Sunday.

For others it is Television, they will rather miss church or miss the secret place than miss a television series or sport. That television is your God.

Again I say to us these things will be tested in our lives. God will place Himself side by side with those things and ask you to choose whom you will serve.

Some of us are going through that test right now. Initially it will cost you, you will lose friends and things and seeming opportunities to make money or advance but you will gain in the end.

The God you chose to worship and prioritize above all else, will give it back to you, Daniel 3:14-30.

These things look subtle and harmless but they are after one thing, our worship. You will say they are not bad things which is true but they are the harmless images of the beast that looks like the lamb but speak with the voice of the beast. They are after one thing, our worship.

The sad things about these things are they cannot save. They don't have power in themselves to deliver or save anyone.

Money cannot save you from death, money doesn't give people peace of mind or joy. Money doesn't give people good sleep.

You can't be sick and ask your trendy and expensive outfits to save you. Your beauty or favourite TV or Sport star cannot redeem you from the power of the grave, yet it is all you have spent your time and money to take care of and spread their fame

The Bible says concerning these idols, "They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him and set him in his place and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove, yeah one shall cry unto him, yet shall he not answer nor save him out of his trouble", Isaiah 46:7.

They are a burden to those that carry them, Isaiah 46:1&2. They come with a lot pressure, pressure to proof a point, so those that worship them are never at peace.

They are always running after the latest to prove to the world that they are still keeping up with its trends and not lagging behind.

They derive their joy from things rather from Him who is the source of all things, Colossians 1:16&17. They that pursue the world are never able to keep up with it. They perish with the world.

This message is a call to check ourselves. I know you go to church but how many gods are you really serving? Is Jesus the only one sitting on the throne of your heart? How many things have been competing for His place in your heart?

Hear the Word of the Lord to you, By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged and this is all the fruit to take away his sin. When. he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up", Isaiah 27:9.

All these things we worship cannot carry us, we are the ones that bear them and they are too heavy.

Those that bear them and the things they bear all go into captivity together, Isaiah 46:1&2, 31:3.

Why don't you turn to Him who has borne you from the belly and has carried you from the womb?

The one who says even to your old age and to your hoar hairs He will carry you. He is the creator, He has made you and He will bear, even He will carry and will deliver you, Isaiah 46:3&4.

PRAYER: Father I give you the permission take away from my heart everything that is competing with you in my life. Give me a consuming passion and love for you in Jesus name.

SALVATION PRAYER

Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:

Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.

Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!
