SPIRITUAL IDLENESS
ROMANS 12:11
If there is one thing I have personally come to learn about the Holy Spirit, it is that He is not the author of idleness whether physical or spiritual. So if you are lazy, you didn't learn that from Christ.
The Holy Spirit can keep you on your toes 24/7. He has work for you to do, not that He doesn't allows us to rest, not at all.
God authored rest(Genesis 2:2)and one of the major promise of the Bible is the promise of REST to God's people, Matthew 11:28, 1Kings 5:4, Joshua 21:44, Hebrews 4:9, Isaiah 32:18, Isaiah 28:12.
After God worked six days he rested on the seventh, thus laying the pattern for us to follow. The Bible says God giveth his beloved sleep, Psalm 127:2.
However, it is the rest of a hard working man that is sweet not the rest of a lazy man. The rest of a lazy man tends to penury, Proverbs 24:30-34.
The living Bible in Proverbs 16:27 says, "Idle hands are the devil’s workshop; idle lips are his mouthpiece. See also, Ephesians 4:28, 2Thessalonians 3:10.
Jesus said my father worked hitherto and I work, John 5:17. He said at one time that He must be about his father's business(Luke 2:49) and the instruction he left us with when he was about to leave the earth is that we should occupy till He comes, Luke 19:13.
Anywhere God sees idleness, he responds to it by engaging the people, giving them work to do, Matthew 20. It is an idle man that is the devil's workshop.
I remember at one time I began to complain that the assignments that the Lord gave me is much.
In response to my complaints, the Holy Spirit flashed a scripture across my mind, and it was the story of David when he chose to stay behind at a time kings go to war and he was lazing around on the balchony of his palace when he saw what he had no business seeing, 2Samuel 11.
Immediately that scripture flashed in my mind I knew what the Lord was saying to me and this is it.
When we become idle, the space that is created by that idleness will have to be occupied by something else.
There is nothing like a free or empty space it must be occupied by something. If it is not God then it will be the devil. if it is not spirit then it will be flesh.
Sometimes our being busy for God is actually protecting us from the trap that Satan has set for us but there is not yet space in our lives to accommodate that trap.
This is why we must be very visionary. When you are not preoccupied with your vision something else will occupy you.
Jesus said he that is not gathering with Him, truly is scattering, Matthew 12:30 There is nothing like sitting in between. If you are not gathering with him then you are scattering. If you are not occupying then you are idle.
The truth is if the Holy Spirit had reduced the assignment, something else would have occupied the space that assignment is taking both in my mind and in my time immediately.
Most likely what would have occupied it are the cares of this world. The cares of this world are our very legitimate concerns Matthew 13:22.
I call them the legitimate distractions and nothing snuffs out the life of Christ in us faster than these things and the reason is because they are legitimate so we have very good reasons for engaging in them.
We can be so preoccupied with our legitimate cares so much so that we become spiritually idle and the more spiritually idle we become the weaker our spiritual antenna gets till something hit us that we are not aware of.
They are subtle but very dangerous. I am more afraid of my legitimate distractions than I am of the illegitimate ones because they creep subtly on me.
Are you becoming spiritually idle? Let's check ourselves. The Bible says to check ourselves if we are still in faith, 2Corinthians 13:5.
May the life and spirit of this word enter us and bring about a radical transformation in our lives in Jesus name.
KEEPING APPOINTMENTS WITH GOD AND HIS ASSIGNMENT WILL PROTECT AND SAVE YOU FROM KEEPING APPOINTMENTS WITH THE DEVIL!!!
SALVATION PRAYER
Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:
Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.
Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!
PEACE
