THE MYSTERY OF THANKSGIVING

1 THESSALONIANS 5:18


The life of a new testament believer is a life of thanksgiving. 


You know why? 


Because God has given us everything pertaining to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him (death,ressurection and ascension of Jesus Christ) that has called us to  glory and virtue 2Peter 1:3. (Paraphrase mine)


This kind of life was demonstrated so much by Apostle Paul, he never ceases to give thanks to God even in contrary situation and circumstances, Acts 16:24-26, Phillipians 1:12, 4:10. 


He wasn't just giving thanks because it was the right thing to do, he understood the mystery of thanksgiving. He knew what happens when you give thanks.


Thanksgiving is a mystery. It is the key that unlocks our born again spirit and allow the Spiritual blessings locked in it to manifest in the physical. 


Simply put, thanksgiving is the acknowledgement of what God has done for you expressed in praise, shout, singing or in words. 


If truly you believe God has done anything for you or in you; your response will be to thank Him. 


The first point I will be sharing with us on the mystery of thanksgiving is how abounding in thanksgiving works to make our faith productive, Colossians 2:7.


Philemon 6 says the communication of our faith is made effectual by acknowledging every good thing that is in us in Christ Jesus. 


Your faith becomes productive when you acknowledge what God has done in you through Christ. 


Romans 4:20 says Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. 


If you want to know whether you are strong in faith or not, check your thanksgiving life, Colossians 2:7. 


One way to know if you are full of the Holy Spirit is that you are constantly giving thanks, singing songs and making melody in your heart to the Lord Ephesians 5:18&19, Romans 1:21.


Thanksgiving is the thermometer by which you measure your faith level, Colossians 2:7. 


The Bible shows us in verse 19 of that Romans 4 how to know when we are weak in faith. When we begin to consider our own body. 


For you, what you are considering may not be your body, but your bank account or your age or your circumstance or environment or upbringing or your human connections or the situation of your country or economy. 


All those things weaken your faith and will not make you to be full of thanks to God. The result anytime we begin to consider all those things is that we become weak in faith. 


But when you are strong in faith the automatic result is thanksgiving, giving glory to God and praising Him. 


That is how to make grace work for you. Grace is what God has done for you independent of you, whether you deserve it or not. 


Faith is your response to what God has done and the only valid response of faith is thanksgiving. 


If truly you believe you are healed, your response will be thank you Jesus for healing me, then you will begin to do what you can't do before because you know you are healed, not going to get healed. 


Grace works by faith(Ephesians 2:8)and faith works by acknowledging every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus, Philemon 6. 


That word acknowledge means to accept or admit the existence or truth of something. 


Faith is not trying to make God do something, it is a response to what He has already done. 


You will want to ask me are you saying we should thank God for what I am yet to see its manifestation in my life? Yes! That is exactly what I am saying!


Thanksgiving takes your focus away from the problem and puts it back on God and that is the first step to begin to experience what He has done for you.

Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:

 Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour. 

Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!

CHANGE FOCUS One major winning strategy is to keep your focus on what God is doing and not on what God is yet to do.  The devil is very adept at making people focus their attention either on what he is doing in their lives or on what God is not doing for them  This is the reason for sadness and depression.
