OTHER FEATURES OF GOOD CHARACTER
2Peter 1:5-11
COURAGE: Courage is the ability to do a seemingly difficult thing or step in the presence of fear.
Courage does not mean absence of fear but the inability of fear to stop you from taking a step or moving towards your goal. It is one of the attributes of good character.
Be strong and courageous, God admonished Joahua many times to motivate him to do what He has commanded him to do, Joshua 1:6,7&9.
Courage becomes a currency when added to other attributes of good character because it helps you do the seemingly impossible and surmount your fears to achieve great feats.
GRIT: Simply put, Grit is resolve. If you don't have grit you can't be great because there are too many things out there that are set to discourage you.
A man that has grit is a determined man. He is unwavering in that which he has resolved to do or believe.
Many get easily discouraged at the first sign of opposition or rejection to their vision because they lack grit.
David was a man that had grit. He was uncompronising when he faced Goliath.
Unlike the rest of Israel that turned back at the first sight of Goliath, Dabid stood his ground even though he was alone in his decision.
That God promised you something does not mean you won't have to fight to take it. So resolve to fight the good fight of faith.
DETERMINATION: It is similar to Grit. A determined man is unbending in his ways.
It takes this component of good character to be an achiever both in life and destiny and when put along side with other attributes of good character it is a currency that can be used to make purchases in life.
Satan is determined to destroy humanity but God is also determined to save humanity.
DILIGENCE: I can spend the whole day on this one. Simply put diligence is constantly applying the necessary labour required to accomplish a purpose.
Unfortunately many christians are not diligent. They pray, read their bible and have faith; but they don't know that faith without works is dead.
Faith is perfected by works. If you have faith but not works you will have nothing to show as physical evidence that you have faith.
It is your physical lanour that supplies the body that your faith needs to manifest physically.
Faith is the Spirit component but work/labour is the physical component.
One question that must not be far from the mouth of one walking by faith is LORD, WHAT MUST I DO?
Many assume prayer or calling will take the place of diligence so they pray all day long and don't work or under work. What God blesses is the work of your hands.
It is the labourer that is worthy of his wages not the called or the christian, Matthew 10:10.
It is the diligent hand that is made fat but he that dealeth with a slack hand will go into penury.
That God called you is the reason why you will work more than everybody else because the calling is not for the lazy man.
God told me at the start of this ministry; Give yourself diligently to these things that your profiting may appear unto all.
Diligence means persistent labour till you see your desired result. It is the man that is diligent in his work that will not stand before mere men, Proverbs 22:29.
What God rewards is your diligence or labour in the calling not the calling itself.
If you are not seeing the blessing of the Lord in your calling, check if you are a labourer.
There are many called, the harvest is plentious, but labourers are few, Matthew 9:37
ENDURANCE: It is the ability to pesevere long in an unfavourable condition.
Jesus endured the cross because he saw the joy that was set before Him (the glory), Hebrews 12:1.
Many don't know they have to endure to see the kind of glory they desire, so they give up at the first sign of rejection or failure or mockery.
You must despise the shame and endure the cross to see the glory.
Without endurance, tenacity and resilience cannot be built in you. There is something called the endurance of faith, Hebrews 6:15.
The anointing makes things happen instantly but faith makes things happen after a while.
During the period you are waiting for what you believe to happen you will have to endure Hebrews 11:27.
Abraham obtained the promise after he endured for a while not immediately.
Many christians have not been taught endurance as a weapon of warfare. If you can't endure you can't taste glory.
This characteristic trait, when added to other attributes of good character, can be used to make purchases in life. There are some levels of results you will only have because you endured.
KINDNESS TO SELF AND OTHERS: You must be kind to everybody and to yourself, Romans 12:10. Some understand the aspect of being kind to others but not to themselves.
This is the part I will be laying more emphasis on. Infact I believe that if you will not be an hypocrite you must first be kind to yourself to know how to be kind to others.
The bible says we should do to others as we will want others to do to us. What that means is if you dont know what you want others to do to you you may not know what to do to others.
Treat yourself well then you will know how to treat others well. However don't take it to the extreme such that you treat only yourself well and treat others badly. This is called selfishness.
A christian must be selfless. Except a corn of wheat falls to the ground and die he abideth alone, John 12:24. To bring forth much fruit, you must die to self.
Simply put, you must lose your life to gain it back in multiple folds. It is a kingdom principle.
Some of the things you have been asking God for will come to you as reward or harvest. To see them you must begin to sow seeds that will produce that kind of harvest.
Don't just speak kind words to others but harsh words to yourself it is not being humble it is inferiority complex and hypocrisy.
You must balance kindness both to yourself and to others. Don't be a parent that is kind to other people's children and spouses but harsh to your spouse and children, it is hypocrisy.
Speak kind words to your children, your spouse, your workers and yourself, not only to outsiders.
ADAPTABILITY: This characteristic trait can both be good or bad depending on what you are adapting to, Romans 12:2.
Adaptability is the ability to blend with a situation or circumstance easily whetger good or bad.
With every change comes the need to adapt. Adaptability and tolerance are almost the same.
There are things that you can't change in people but you will need to adapt to or tolerate in them, because they will keep doing it.
Sometimes to get the best out of a situation you have to adapt. Honey actually can come out of the carcass of a lion but you have to endure and adapt to the foul smell, Judges 14:8&9.
There are situations that instead of God bringing you out, He tells you to adapt.
Elisha must have had to adapt to Elijah's harshness to be able to get the double portion of the anointing.
God didn't bring him out of Elijah's tutelage or change Elijah because of him. He told him to tolerate Elijah's excesses.
It is not everytime God will change people because of you; sometimes it is you He will change because of others.
That is called adaptability and tolerance.
All these attributes make for good character and when put together they are currencies that can be used to make purchases in life
PRAYER:
It is the Lord that worketh in us to will and to do of His good the pleasure, Phillipians 2:13. Father work in me to will and do your good pleasure in Jesus name.
Lord, plant a hunger and a desire in me to be a better person in me and give me the grace to follow through with my decision in Jesus name.
PEACE
SALVATION PRAYER
Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:
Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.
Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!
PEACE
