GENERAL AND SPECIFIC THINGS OF DESTINY
Leviticus 9:6
There are general things and there are specific things. One sign that we are growing in our walk with God towards our purpose is that we are moving from doing general things to specific things.
When it comes to practicing your Christian faith, you do general things but when it comes to fulfilling your purpose you do specific things.
Immediately after giving our lives to Jesus, what the Holy Spirit gets to work to establish in us is the love of Jesus, Romans 5:5.
We agree that Jesus loves us mentally but we are not really convinced about it. Why is He doing this? So that we can trust Him.
As good as serving God is; that is not His priority , His priority is being with Him, John 15:15. A time comes that we are sure Jesus loves us but we don't trust Him yet as to hand over our lives to Him completely.
Then the Holy Spirit sets us on a journey of trusting Him.
The Sherpherd does not start leading His sheep in the path of righteousness first, He feeds Him first by making him to lie down in green pastures and then lead Him beside the still waters, Psalms 23:2. So that he will get to know His voice, His love and he can trust Him.
It is in the place of feeding that we get to know the voice of the Holy Spirit. You must be able to identify the voice of the Holy Spirit for yourself. Seek for Him to teach you by Himself not through a man of God everytime.
At this stage the Holy Spirit is not asking you to do any service He only want you to know His voice so well and He wants to get you to a place where you are so sure of His love and can put your trust in Him completely.
This is why you can't get born again today and the Holy Spirit will tell you to resign your job or show you who to marry the next day.
The still waters is a place of rest, where you can trust Him. He answers all your questions, clear your doubts and bring clarity to every confusion.
As all these is happening to you your trust and confidence in Him is building. Before the Holy Spirit can work through us we have to cease from our own works.
So the Holy Spirit is working to get us to cease from our own works and enter into our sabbath rest. Still He doesn't begin to make any demand on you for service.
Many of the things we call service are not really the actual service they are only our on the job training. What the Bible calls taking heed to our call that we may fulfil it, Colossians 4:17. The 'fulfilling it' is the actual service.
The next thing is the restoration of your soul, Psalms 23:3. Adam had enough of God in His soul after leaving the garden that he was able to still work with God for many many years through his conscience even though his spirit has been separated from God.
But a time came when mankind no longer retain any knowledge of God in his conscience and the thoughts of his heart were consistently evil and wicked and his conscience was completely dead, Genesis 6:5.
Everything of God that has been stolen away from the soul of man has to be restored. Hence, the need for our mindset to be renewed, the salvation of our soul, Romans 12:2, Phillipians 2:5.
When we go to church and engage in personal spiritual activities, they are not an end in themselves, they are to bring us into a place where we are established in the love of God, we know His voice and we trust Him enough to cease from our own works and enter into our sabbath, Hebrews 4:10.
If all these things are not happening to you, all that you have been doing are just religious activities they are not getting you to any destination in particular. It is like being in a bus that is heading no where in particular.
Because by the time we really begin to serve God, we will need all these things to survive, the love of God that we are so sure of, our complete trust in Him and our knowing His voice so well.
By the time you enter into service you already know how to live by faith and how the Holy Spirit leads you.
He has rehearsed it with you several times in the wilderness. You have already used your faith to kill the lion and the bear and you know faith works.
You are not in doubt whether faith works or whether God loves you or whether you can trust Him completely by the time you are in the open facing Goliath.
Any child of God that the Holy Spirit doesn't take through these stages He can't use him or her well because he hasn't grown in God well.
This is the reason for the study of the word, going to church, praying and fasting and other spiritual activities that we do.
They are not an end in themselves they are to bring you to these points. There is nobody that God used mightily in the Bible that did not go through these stages.
Moses forty years in the back side of the wilderness, Joseph's 13 years in Egypt, David in the bush and the cave of Adullam.
John the Baptist remaining in the wilderness until the day of his showing forth to Israel was for this same reason, even our Lord Jesus was not exempted to set an example for us.
Apostle Paul spent three and half years in the wilderness of Arabia to know Jesus very well and understand the specifics of his calling before setting out on his mission.
The next thing after getting born again is not to serve God, it is to know God. You can serve God without knowing Him but it is not possible to know Him and not serve Him.
Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:
Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.
Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!
