FASTING DYNAMICS

PART 2

Hosea 4:6

The first thing to do to know what fast best suit you is to determine the amount of spiritual result you get from observing that kind of fast.

Many people are not interested in the spiritual result their fast yields for them, they are more interested in the activity of fasting than in the result of the fasting.

For some of us a phone fast or internet fast will yield more spiritual result than a food fast.

For others separating from certain kinds of associations will yield more spiritual result than abstaining from food while still keeping those associations.

Study what works for you. Ask the Holy Spirit to show which fast best suit your present spiritual condition.

And be flexible enough to allow for a change when the Holy Spirit ask you to change your fasting method either for your health reasons or because that fasting method no longer subdued your flesh the way it should.

You can easily detect this if you judge the quality of your fast by the spiritual result you get rather than by the activity of fasting itself.

Do you hear God more clearly or have more revelations from His Word. Does it enhance your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit to pick His voice more accurately.

There are times I am too hungry to pray and I don't sense any quickening of the Holy Spirit to help me rise above that hunger.

Probably because I was too stressed during the day but when I eat lightly drink some water, I feel strengthened then I am able to pray better or study better.

It doesnt sound spiritual to many of us but that is what works for me. If I am fasting and I get so hungry that I can't do any spiritual excercise I just go and eat and the spiritual activity I couldn't do I find the strength to do it.

I judge my fast by the spiritual result I get from it and not by the activity itself.

Does the bible open up to you better? How much of the partnership of the Holy Spirit do you enjoy during such fast?

What is the essence of fasting that you did  and you slept all through because you were completely fagged out?

Infact, if I see that I don't get the time I need to do any spiritual activity during my fast, I quietly go and break it and rescheduled it for another day when I will be less busy and have more time for spiritual activities.

Now that is wisdom!

King Saul called for a fast for Israel on the day of a physical battle when they suppose to eat if at least a bit to have enough strength to fight, the result was that they were too weak to fight, 1Samuel 14:24-33

The man that dipped his hand in the honey and tasted a little of it, his eyes were enlightened and his strength renewed to fight.

Even though it sounded spiritual it was a foolish decision Saul made for the soldiers that day, 1Samuel 14:43-45.

We must move beyond the excitement of carrying out a spiritual activity to having real results for our spiritual activities.

Kenneth Hagin lived a fasted life as against fasting from time to time and the result that came from his life is too evident to be denied?

He found what worked for him and he stuck to it. He didn't neglect the care of his body in a bid to be spiritual

Again, the question is which kind of fast give you the most spiritual benefit or result?

Ezekiel fasted eating a regulated amount of food and water from time to time as he was instructed by God, he didnt completely have to stay away from food.

The problem with many of us is that we follow and believe more the things that we hear from different men of God than we follow the things that the Holy Spirit tells us in our heart.

We have already concluded that the Holy Spirit cannot say some things. Things like take some rest and don't pray tonight, Eat today and don't fast.

We think that must definitely be the devil speaking and we rebuke it even when our body is obviously tired and badly worn out!

Many of us think God is so spiritual that he doesnt take into consideration our physical well being or health conditions.

God knows if the temple He inhabits dies He will no longer have a house to manifest on earth, so He is personally interested in our body not only our souls and spirits, 1Corinthians 6:19-20

That is why he made provision for our healing but while we are growing in faith and waiting for that healing to manifest physically in our body we should live wisely by paying attention to our health

But some of us are more spiritual than God, we are so spiritual we only take care of our spirit man and neglect the body that houses our spirit man.

No matter who you are and your health condition or your body type there is a particular fast that suit your body type and your spirit man. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you which one.

Ezekiel rejected a certain kind of instruction of fasting that God gave him and God was so benevolent enough to ask him to use something else as fuel to prepare his Food,Ezekiel 4:2-15.

Another example is Daniel, he observed a kind of fast that what he did was to abstain from rich or luxury food, meat and wine and he didn't use any cream or perfume on himself, Daniel 10:3.

3 days after he finished the fasting he had an open vision and an encounter, Daniel 10:4-11.

Yes, you can take water during fast. It is good to keep your kidney well hydrated.  It is not to pamper the body but it is wisdom to stay healthy and alive.

Whatever you want to do for long you should with wisdom much more than zeal.

If you plan to fast consistently for the remaining 50 or 60 or 70 years of  your life, then it should be done with patience and with wisdom so that you dont wear your body out too early or too easily.

Nobody who is involved in a marathon and plans to finish strong starts by running so fast and so furiously, he most likely will be too tired to finish the race.

Jesus is both the power of God and the wisdom of God, 1Corinthians 1:24. Many times we neglect the wisdom part and go for the power part only. We need the balance of both to be safe and to last.

In my next post I will share with us on how the state of our heart matters more than the act of fasting itself.

Please, if you read this don't miss out on the concluding part and also read the first post. It is on our blog and it is free. Do well to share with others to help someone.

PRAYER: Father, open my eyes to areas of my life where I have been neglecting the care of my body in a bid to be spiritual. Father help me to have regard for your natural laws as well and not only your spiritual laws. Fill me with your wisdom to finish my assignment and to finish it strong in Jesus name.

PEACE.

SALVATION PRAYER

Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:

Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.

Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!

PEACE
