PONDER ON THESE THINGS

JOHN 13:17

I remember a story my father told us when we were growing up. It was about an old woman in his village who was an idol worshipper.

When the missionaries brought the gospel of Jesus to their village, this woman not understanding what salvation was really all about, indicated her interest in accepting Jesus.

She accepted Jesus on one side but she never stopped worshipping her idols.

There was a song she used to sing that my father sang for us, that says now that she has accepted christianity and has joined it to her list of other idol worship, her life should now be as sweet as honey.

To that old woman, Jesus was not the way, but a way; Jesus was not the truth but a truth and Jesus was not the life but a way of life. Neither was Jesus the door but a door.

She added Jesus as one of the many ways to God, one of the many truths and one of the many doors that can grant you access to God or anything you want.

To her, Jesus was not the way but one of the many ways to have a life that is as sweet as honey so she added Him to the list of ways that she has to get her what she wants in life.

So if she tries Jesus and He doesn't work, she tries the other idols too or if she tries the other idols and they don't work, she comes back and try Jesus.

Anyone that accepts Jesus as one of the many ways, doors, or truths will never be able to enlist His help and get Him to commit to him fully. Psalm 16:4a says, "The sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another God"

Getting Jesus to help you requires that you let go of every other ways, doors, truths and lives you have held on to before and depend on Him solely and wholeheartedly as the way, the truth, the life and the door, John 14:6, John 10:7.

What this means is that Jesus becomes your only way, your only truth, your only door and your only life. He is no longer a matter of either or to you but Him alone.

You have come to stay permanently with Him and anything He does not give you, you will not seek it else where.

This is why when we first come to seek Him, it looks as if He takes His time before he commits to us, John 2:23-25.

He is watching to see if we still have options outside of Him. He watches to see where we will run to in times of trouble, to His word or to the world?

And if He tarries before He responds to us, are we going to remain there and wait for Him or we will depart from His presence and take the other way out?

Jesus said "if you continue in my teaching, then are you my disciples indeed, then shall you know the truth and the truth shall set you free", John 8:31.

The period of continuing is a period of watching. God watching to see if you will get tired and give up or take the other doors or the other ways or the other lives.

It won't just happen once or twice or three times, you have to continue at it, believing, confessing, trusting whether you are seeing result or not before you get the result.

God doesn't commit Himself to men cheaply, there has to be a period of testing. He says you will only seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart and all your mind and all your strength, Jeremiah 29:13.

That is, when every door is closed to all other options and is either His way or no other way, His life or no other life, His door or no other door and His truth becomes all the truth you know.

At this point, He becomes the door that leads to other doors no other door exist outside of Him. He becomes the way that leads to other ways, no other way exist outside of Him.

He becomes the life that supplies life to every other aspects of your life, you don't introduce another light from somewhere else. Only in Him you see light.

Isaiah 50:11 says, "Behold all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks; walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

The great men and women of God you see commanding results here and there today didn't start like that.

God didn't commit to them at first but when they continued and never gave up and they closed every door to every other options and stayed with Him only; He became Jesus, The Truth, The Way, The Door and The Life.

Outside of Him, they didn't have anything else. Such that if all they say is just JESUS, the oppressed are delivered, the sicks get healed, those in chains are loosed.

My question to you today is are you willing to stay and continue with Jesus, or you still have many options you can explore if Jesus does not give you what you are seeking Him for on time?

Has Jesus become your only Way, your only Truth, your only Door and your only Life?

Have you come to a point where like David you have concluded that the drink offering of other gods you will not offer, nor take up their names into your lips, Psalm 16:4b?

Ponder on these things.

SALVATION PRAYER

Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:

Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.

Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!
