UNDERSTANDING THE BOUNDARIES OF AUTHORITY AND SUBMISSION
PART 1
Romans 13:1
In discussing this, I will be using women or wives as a case study of those at the receiving end of the backlash of the misuse of authority.
This does not however mean that the things discussed here cannot be applied in other places where one kind of authority or the other is being excercised.
There is nothing like authority without jurisdiction.
Every authority whether of spirits, humans, animals or has jurisdiction and that includes the authourity that a husband excercises over his wife and parents over their children as well as bosses over their subordinates.
Kill your child because he is your child and see whether you will be spared by the law because he is your child.
If your husband ask you to jump inside fire bevause he is your head, will you jump all in the name of submission?
Or if he ask you not to eat again because he is your husband will you submit to that and not run away that he wants you dead?
Your authority over your wife as a husband has jurisdiction and boundaries. Your authority over your children as parents has boundaries.
Your authority as a boss or leader over your subordinates has jurisdiction.
You can't demand from your wife her means of livelihood without any means of providing fulfilment for her and meeting her needs to the extent to which having her own livelihood will afford her, you are overstepping your boundary of authority over her as a husband.
The jurisdiction of your authority does not cover that aspect of her life. That she is married to you doesn't mean she should lose her sense of fulfilment and identity.
Even though tradition and culture in this part of the world has made husbands and men generally believe that their authority over their family has no boundaries or jurisdiction,
Only God has authority without jurisdiction and without boundaries, Romans 13:1. And even at that God bounds Himself with laws (His Word) and he doesn't violate them because He is God, Psalm 138:2
As Christians we are to take example of how to use authority from God Himself as our father and from Jesus as our husband, Hebrews 12:2, Phillipians 2:6.
What that means is that the same way Christ loves the church and uses His aithority to make us a better bride for Himself everyday is the way husbands should excercise their authority over their wives and parents over their children, Ephesians 5:26-27.
When you use your authority to correct your wife or subordinates, it must be to the end that they might become better not more weaker or depraved such that they will be too defenceless against any maltreatment you mete out against them.
Where authority is used properly, the end result is trust, loyalty, committment and true submission not forced submission.
As a man you can't excercise your authority as a husband over another man's wife or over your boss because she is a female, it is not within the jurisdiction of your authority to do that.
If you ask your wife not to work without providing any means of livelihood and fulfilment for her equivalent to what she could have gotten for herself through her skills or certificate, it is an abuse of authourity on your part as a husband.
Even man's dominion over God's creation has jurisdiction. He is never to exert that dominion over his fellow human beings, Genesis 1:6
Authority is not just given so that we can command and lord it over people, Matthew 20:26-28. Authority is not given to reduce people or manipulate intimidate and control or destroy them.
Authority is given first to protect, to provide and to build up, to enhance, to discipline to make better, to correct, and to ward off enemies, trespassers and assailants.
Any authority that a husband or boss or leader excercises over his family, children or subordinates outside of these is an abuse of authority.
Many many people don't understand what authority Is, they think it is given to them to manipulate, intimadate and control and carve a niche for themselves.
Authority is responsibility that those that are given will give account of before God.
PRAYER : FATHER GIVE ME A PERFECT UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT AUTHORITY AND SUBMISSION IS. HELP ME NOT TO MISUSE MY AUTHORITY AND HELP ME NOT TO SUBMIT TO TYRANNY AND OPPRESSION IN THE NAME OF SUBMISSION IN JESUS NAME.

SALVATION PRAYER
Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:
Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.
Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!
