TRAINING THE MIND

ROMANS 12:2




At one time or the other we have heard people call something they did their brain child. 


What that means is that the idea was born in their mind and it became a reality for all to see. You can also call that idea mind child, that is, a product of their mind. 


When something is a child it means it is a product of something. 


Think of a child and the first thing that comes to mind is one that is naive, innocent and inexperienced. 


When someone is a child it means he or she can be trained and given direction as to how to act and relate to things so that he or she turns out a certain way.  


When we gave our lives to Jesus, our spirit is what got born again not our minds. Hence the journey of transforming the mind must begin. 


With an untransformed mind one who is born again does not differ much from one that is not because in their mind their thoughts are the same, Ephesians 4:18, Isaiah 55:7-9.. 


They are both controlled and guided by the same perspective and motivation towards life. 


A man's mind can never be empty. If you meet an adult with an empty mind what that means is that the person has lost his mind. 


Up until the time you got born again your mind has been occupied with something now that you are born again you have to retrain it. 


Retraining the mind is difficult because first you have to get rid of what has been there before and then put something new there. 


That is why it is easier to train a child in the ways of the Lord than an adult. 


A child's mind has not been  exposed to the ways of the world like an adult's mind has. So you are at liberty to put whatever you want there. 


For this same reason, the earlier you get born again the better for your mind because you have a long period of time to put the right things inside your mind and little or none of the wrong mindset to demolish.


When you are born again your spirit is born again but your mind and body are not born again. 


As a result of this, your mind and body can hinder your walk with God, and affect your manifestation to a large extent, Psalm 78:41. 


Your mind has to be renewed and your body has to be brought in discipline to your spirit, Romans 12:2, 1Corinthians 9:27. 


Your mind at salvation in God's kingdom is a child or a baby that has to be trained in the ways of God. 


What this means is that your mind can be highly learned and vast in the ways of the world but completely naive and ignorant in the ways of God. 


So in the ways of the world your mind can be an adult but in the ways of God it is a child


Many of us after we got born again didn't do anything with our mind, we continue to feed it with same diet of the world that we have always fed it with before we knew the Lord. Same movies, same friends, same thoughts, same novels, same music, same attractions, Romans 8:5.


The result was that we didn't see much of what the Bible says should be the signs that follow a believer manifest in our lives.


When you train a child in the way that he should go, he will not depart from it when he is old, Proverbs 22:6.


Hence the need to receive with meekness the engrafted Word of God which is able to save your soul, James 1:21. 


Your soul is the seat of your mind. Even though you are born again you can't enjoy the fullness of what God has for you without a renewed mind, Galatians 4:1. 


Anytime you see God's promises for you, that unrenewed mind will limit God such that you cannot enjoy that which has been freely given unto you. 


I will be sharing with us two ways by which the Word of God renew(transform) our minds. 

1) Tearing down, 2Corinthians 10:5

2) Building up, Acts 20:32

ACTION PLAN: I want us to check our selves if the things we have been doing with our time and lives have really changed from when we were in the world. 


The responsibility to renew our mind lies with us not God, Phillipians 2:12. Ask for the grace that will enable you to make a paradigm shift in your daily activities and the way you live your life.


SALVATION PRAYER


Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:


 Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour. 


Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!

CHANGE FOCUS One major winning strategy is to keep your focus on what God is doing and not on what God is yet to do.  The devil is very adept at making people focus their attention either on what he is doing in their lives or on what God is not doing for them  This is the reason for sadness and depression.
