A REVELATION OF GOD'S MERCY

Luke 15:11-24

Why do we need a revelation of God's Mercy?

So that when we sin or have done badly we will not run away from.God but to him.

Why do we need a revelation of God's Mercy?

So that when we fall short of grace and do not qualify, Gods mercy can bridge the gap for us.

Why do we need a revelation of God's Mercy?

We also need mercy when we are not deserving of a thing either by qualification, birth, position or other reasons but it is what we need for life and destiny.

The mercy of God sometimes does not completely take away the consequences of a sin but rather it reduces the severity of the consequences.

In this instance we also need the mercy of God to reduce the severity of a punishment for our wrong doings

We need the mercy of God when we sin in ignorance and not intentionally.

Our pattern man for studying the subject of God's mercy is David in the old testament and Jesus in the new testament, Luke 23:24

David was a man.that loved God but fumbled big-time along the way and God forgave him even though he had to suffer some consequences.

David understood the mercy of God and said blessed is the man whose sins are covered, whose transgressions are forgiven.

And When God talks about the kind of mercy He will give to new testament believers that is those that will be born again through the blood of Jesus, He talked about the sure mercies of David, Isaiah 55:3.

David had a foretaste of what the forgiveness of sin through mercy and not sacrifice will do in the new testament  when as yet he was in the old testament, Psalm 32:1

A mercy and forgiveness that covers sin and does not reckon unto men their transgression.

There are certain covenants that God cut with men of old in honour to their faith and their walk with Him.

God so much honour those covenants that even in the new testament He made us partakers of  those covenant by bringing us into them through those He initially cut those covenant with.

There is the Abrahamic covenant that confer The blessings on us when we accept Jesus as our Lord and saviour, Galatians 3:14.

There is also the Davidic covenant of mercy that we come to enjoy when.we give our lives to Jesus, Isaiah 55:3.

When as Christians we sinned or we are undeserving or don't qualify or don't measure up, there is the covenant of God's mercy and the covenant of everlasting kindness, Isaiah 55:3, 54:10  that we can take hold of.

Always remember that his anger is but for a moment but his mercy endures forever, Psalm 30:5. What that means is that you can't exhaust the mercy of God.

God do relent in his anger but not in his mercy. Mercy prevails over judgement and the blood of Jesus speaks mercy. Jesus cried on the cross for God's mercy against his enemies and not judgement.

Today, wefall into sin like those men did but when we cry for mercy, His mercy comes to bail us out.

That was possible because while His enemies crucified Him unjustly He cried for mercy and not judgement .

If He had cried for God's judgement and not mercy for His enemies, God would have heard and the way to obtain mercy from God when we fall into sin would have been closed forever.

But because He chose the way of mercy over judgement when He could have asked for judgement and He would have been right.

By that singular act, the throne of God became the throne of mercy and not the throne of judgement through the blood of Jesus Christ.

We can boldly go to that throne today and ask for mercy in our time of need and we will obtain it.

He didn't say, Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing because of Himself.

He did it for us, that the way of mercy can be opened for us and we can access mercy when we sin and fall short like He knew we would from time to time.

That singular act made mercy to prevail over judgement forever!

The mercy of God that came through Jesus excludes you from mercy by choice  as seen in old testament(Romans 9:15) and move you into a partaker of mercy by sonship and inheritance through the blood of Jesus Christ, Hebrews 4:16

This is not so that we can abuse His mercy but so that satan do not deceive us that when we fall into sin we should run away from God and not to Him, Hebrews 10:26-31

His mercy is so big and so vast that it prevails over every and any form of sin.

There is no covenant, no legal ground, no sin, no unrighteousness, no curse that the mercy of God in the blood of Jesus has not wiped out and no sin so big that it cannot forgive. It is a mercy that no amount of sin can ever exhaust.

No matter what revelation of God you have gotten before without having the revelation of God's mercy added to it, our revelation of who God is is not complete.

We must have a revelation of both the fear of God and the mercy of God for our knowledge of Him to be complete

We must be able to say I know whom I have believed that He is a merciful God and I will run to Him and not away from Him even though I have sinned and not worthy to be called his son.

The prodigal son has a revelation of his father as a merciful father and that helped him to be able to make that decision to go back home, Luke 15:18

In my next post we will be looking at what implications having a revelation of God's mercy will have in our lives.

PRAYER: MENTION THOSE AREAS YOU NEED THE MERCY OF GOD AND ASKED GOD TO SHOW YOU HIS MERCY IN THOSE AREAS.

SALVATION PRAYER

Anything short of you being born again and living a life of holiness and purity hurt Jesus so much. But you can make things right here and now by saying this simple prayer and mean it genuinely from your heart:

Lord Jesus I come to you today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I cannot help myself. I repent of all my sins and I forsake them. Jesus, I invite you into my life, be my Lord, be my Saviour.

Wash me by your precious blood, forgive my sins and write my name in the book of life. From this day, I promise to follow you all the rest of my life. Help me Lord, in Jesus name, Amen. Congratulations you are now born again!

PEACE
